It's winter! Sabrina is wading at the beach on Oriental Bay.

Pictures I have from June/July when we had our visitors!

  6. I'm nearly 6' tall and if I reached up I could barely reach over the top bar of that fence. Its talons were bigger than my outstretched hands by a fair bit. I've seen ostriches before... but never one this big or this close. Note the distinctly un-American lack of idiot barriers to the ostrich...

  7. So Kiwi's wouldn't climb the fence to go find out if the ostrich was mean?

  8. I see stuff like that everywhere... which makes me have hope for humanbeings. Not EVERYONE has to be guided by fences, ropes, blazing arrows, and neon signs.

  9. When folks do get hurt/killed in NZ from doing dumb things, the general response is, "What a shame, they should have known better." The other response we hear is "Well, we aren't going to ruin everyones fun just cuz one got hurt." The harshest response is "Well, we should charge them for the emergency care..."

  10. The should have known better doesn't exist in the US anymore... more like The government says what you should know about.

But that's my paranoia talkin ;o)

  13. I forgot to add that these concrete seats were poured over active steam thermals. They were hot as.

  14. That tower is the same structure as the previous 3 pictures. On the water it only looks about 1 story tall, but this picture reveals how it actually goes down to the bottom of the valley.
